The Adoption Experience: Families Who Give Children a Second Chance by Ann Morris,

The Adoption Experience: Families Who Give Children a Second Chance by Ann Morris,
This is a book of real life stories of adopters which takes the reader through every stage of the adoption process starting with the moment when they decide that adoption is the right option for them to the stories of adoptees brought up by adoptive parents. In between, the book looks at all the different types of adoption that are carried out by all sorts of families from all sorts of children of every race and age and with every kind of problem. They range from babies who are only a few days old when they are taken into an adoptive family to teenagers with a multitude of psychological and physical problems. The book looks at both the success and failure of these adoptions. Its aim is to inform and enlighten professionals, adopters, potential adopters and all those lives have in some way been touched by adoption or want to know more about it. In 15 chapters it includes more than 70 real life stories which are all told from the heart -- sometimes in a moment of crisis and sometimes at a time of joy. They are not analyzed; they are true stories about how it feels to be at the center of adoption. All the stories, which have been recounted over the past 10 years, are reflective of adoption today in Britain. The book also includes a chapter on the legal aspects of adoption and a further chapter of useful information and addresses.

Adopting on Your Own: The Complete Guide to Adopting as a Single Parent by Lee Varon,
Adopting on Your Own: The Complete Guide to Adopting as a Single Parent by Lee Varon,
The first guide of its kind, covering all stages of the adoption process "Adopting on Your Own addresses the questions and concerns of prospective single parents. Lee Varon, a practicing therapist specializing in adoption counseling and the single mother of two adopted children, helps readers make an evenhanded assessment of whether adoption is right for them, then leads them through the different stages of arranging and financing the adoption. She weighs the advantages of open versus closed and international versus domestic adoption for the single parent, and demystifies potentially daunting steps such as choosing an agency and preparing for the home study. "Adopting on Your Own also offers up-to-date information on the latest developments in interracial adoption policy, the legal rights of gays and lesbians to adopt, and the evolving attitudes of agencies and social workers toward single-parent adoptions. Throughout the book, Varon draws on personal anecdotes and the experiences of her clients to offer honest, insightful advice on every step of the adoption process.

Open adoption - Open adoption is a term generally used to describe a variety of arrangements allowing for ongoing contact between the natural/birth/biological parent(s), and a child placed for adoption. Open adoption is a relatively new phenomenon, and differs from closed adoptions, where no contact is generally facilitated, unless and until one party attempts to search for the other, or both parties register with one of the many adoption contact registers.

Adoption in California - Agencies that handle adoption in California can range from government-funded agencies that place California children at little of no cost, to attorneys who arrange private adoptions, to international non-profit adoption agencies. Total adoption costs may run from under $1,000 to as much as $40,000 depending on the type of adoption parents choose to do.

Adoption Disclosure Register (Ontario) - The Adoption Disclosure Register (ADR) is an adoption reunion registry operated by the government of Ontario, Canada. It implements the adoption disclosure provisions of the Child and Family Services Act.

Disruption (of adoption) - Disruption is the term most commonly used for ending an adoption. While technically an adoption is disrupted only when it is abandoned by the adopting parent or parents before it is legally completed (an adoption that is reversed after that point is instead referred to in the law as having been dissolved), in practice the term is used for all adoptions that are ended (more recently, among families disrupting, the euphemism "re-homing" has become current).
